This means:

• You cannot legally install weldable bars, padlocks, or deadbolts that require tools or effort to remove from the inside.

• Devices like horizontal panic bars or simple thumb-turns are acceptable.

2. Welded or Removable Bars: NOT Allowed on Required Exit Doors

If the door is classified as a required means of egress:

• Welded bars or any physical obstruction that prevents instant exit is illegal.

• Even if the door is rarely used or at the back of a commercial space, if it’s an exit path in the building plans, it must remain clear and usable.

• Fire exits must be unobstructed, unlocked, and operational at all times.
